Presenter: Mikhala Vail, Vitrum Glass Group
This course is intended to provide information about best practices for using Laminated Glass.
Mikhala Vail is the Architectural Representative of Vitrum Glass Group and has been an active member of the architectural glass industry for the past 10 years. She is currently serving as the Chair of the Vancouver Chapter of the Construction Specifiers of Canada.
S2 -Heavy Glass Entrance Systems
Presenter: Paul Daniels, Frameless Hardware Company
This course provides an understanding of the types of glass approved for use in all-glass entrance and door systems, both for interior and exterior use, and also includes insulating all-glass thermal doors. The different types of frameless glass door access hardware are also discussed and identify considerations related to panic handles, door controls, building, fire, and health and safety codes.
Paul Daniels is the Chief Brand Ambassador Architectural Business Development of Frameless Hardware Company. He has been with the glass hardware industry for more than forty years.
S3 -Making Glass Come to Life: The Principles of Glass Selection
Presenter: Geoff Shellard, Guardian Glass
The presentation reviews the foundations of glass selection and explores options for meeting both aesthetic and performance goals. Covering the glass manufacturing process and the basics of performance measurement, it also provides a comprehensive overview of float and coated glass choices—and related fabrication decisions—that can affect the final appearance of the glass façade.Geoff Shellard is the Pacific Northwest Architectural Design Manager at Guardian Glass. He works with glaziers, architects, developers and specification writers to gain project specifications. Geoff previously spent almost 8 years with a glass fabricator, finishing that tenure as senior architectural sales representative. His education includes marketing management and home inspections, and certifications in biohazard, mold and IAQ inspection and remediation.
S4 – VINO WITH VITRO
Presenter: Chris Fronsoe, Vitro Architectural Glass
Delve into the parallels between evaluating glass options and wine, which all have their unique chemistries, nuances, stories and metrics for understanding and selection.
Chris Fronsoe is the National Architectural Team Manager for Western USA & Western Canada at Vitro Architectural Glass. Chris has years of experience working with general contractors, glaziers, architects and glass fabricators. For the commercial glass market, he brings design knowledge for both vertical and sloped glazing projects. He also worked with top executive and scientific research teams for the solar, automotive and appliance glass market segments. In previous roles, he has been active working with glass fabricators worldwide and setting up global distribution networks.
Formerly a manager and sommelier for a restaurant selected four times as a Top 100 Wine Restaurant by Wine Enthusiast Magazine, Chris now also conducts the popular Vino with Vitro, AIA credited educational series.
